Effortless Power Swing

The Hidden Secret for Effortless Power

This article is about the Hidden Secret for Effortless Power in the Golf Swing.

How far you hit the ball will depend on the sequence in which you make your golf swing. Hitting the ball long depends on the sequence in your swing. And if you are like most golfers you will want to hit it as long as possible. You need to recognize the relationship of the sequence of your swing and distance you hit the ball.

So let us get started by looking at what should be happening in the backswing and in what sequence.

The big muscles of the shoulder and back must start the backswing. You do NOT want to start your backswing with your hands.

Shift your weight to the right foot as you are starting the backswing along with the shoulders and back. Continue to move your weight to your right foot (for a right hander) all throughout the turning of your backswing so that when you reach the top of the backswing position you have about 90% of your weight on your right foot.

Bottom line the backswing is a shift and turn move.

Therefore, what part of the golf swing does the most power come from?

If you answered the transition, you are correct. When you change directions from the backswing to the downswing, at that point, you are going through the transition.

If this were not the case, you would have golfers mounting themselves up at the perfect top of the backswing and swinging from that point. That does not happen since it is the change of directions in moving the club back to bringing it down where the real power comes from. Henceforth, that is the key place where a great deal of amateurs lose a lot of distance in their golf swing. This is done by a lack of the right golf swing sequencing. Let me demonstrate.

Envision yourself at the top of the backswing position. What should start the downswing?

The right answer to this question is the weight shift.

You are required to move your weight back to the left foot to start the downswing. So, you will need to move your left knee towards the target, then the left hip and left shoulder with the hands following.

Unfortunately, most golfers start the downswing with their hands and this is a killer as far as creating distance is concerned. You've got to start the downswing with the weight shift and then the left knee.

Time to go to the golf range and try it....

The drill must be done by slowly bringing the club back to the top and then when you've almost reached the top of your backswing move your weight back to your left foot and move your left knee towards your target. After you have completed a few swings in slow motion start increasing the speed of the swing until you reach 80% of your full swing.

If you get this sequencing correct from the backswing to downswing you will gain a lot of distance and the golf swing will be a lot easier for you. Try it…you'll love the results!
